Vtol For Review: Nighthawk

Health levels: 1 (250)
Just like it’s cousin, the swoop, this airplane is made of paper mache and will easily melt to

Speed: 4
Obviously not built for being on the ground, it is dreadfully slow if your dragging your chassis across the ground. However, in the air it will easily dance prety little circles around incomming AA projectiles if you keep enough distance between you and your target to be able to rez them and see them incoming.

Flight capability: 5
It’s an Airplane, or more accuratly, a Vtol. This means it flies, and flies well.

Hitbox Size: 2
Inherently because of the shape of the Vtol, the Avi sits much taller than the actual prims, and is no where near as long as the body is. Normally in mechs this is easily handled, but it is much more complicated against VTOLS when your often times shooting upwards and at the small underside of the shapes.
(I got lazy and copy pasted this from the swoop, but the bodies are almost exactly identical with different overlaying prims to change the overall shape, and same exact avis they are mounted on.)

Weapons that come with: Hawk Cannon, Hawk Bomb

Hawk Cannon:
Equip slot: Left and Right arm
Damage level: 5 (Six round burst, 15 damage a bullet)
ammo: 5 (594, six ammo used per trigger pull)
range: 5 (Cross sim capable)
Projectile type: Phantom, Bullet
Projectile speed: 4
fire rate: 5 (Six round burst with about a 3/4 second pause between salvos)
Heat generation: 5 (Not noticable even when held down.)
Ease of aim: 3 (medium sized projectile at rapid pace, if decent shot easy to direct hit with, otherwise at great range movement will cause misses)
Special: None
Hardmounted: Yes
Splash Size: 0 (N/A)
Personal notes: These are the Air superiority guns of the Vtols. Rapid fireing, hard hitting, and lots of ammo, you will easily shoot down light mechs and other Vtols who get a little too close for comfort. If your a crack shot, they can also be used to pound and harrass ground bound targets to, adding to the damage of your Hawk bomb. However, if you use them too much, you will find your ammo draining relatively quickly in prolonged combat. These are also affected by the momentum of your movement (See Swoop Cannon Description for explanation), so be sure to compensate your aim when firing at long range, or if your rapidly moving.

Hawk Bomb:
Equip slot: Stomach
Damage level: 4 (50 damage
ammo: 5 (100 ammo)
range: 5 (In theory, unlimited, but it’s arch makes it impossible)
Projectile type: Physical, Bomb
Projectile speed: 4
fire rate: 4 (One second pause between rounds fired)
Heat generation: 5 (Not noticable)
Ease of aim: 2 (Sever arch, and affected by momentum)
Special: None
Hardmounted: Yes
Splash Size:4 (5 meters)
Personal notes: at 50 damage a round, these bombs can be quite an attention getter when they come wizzing in from the clouds and impact near a mechs feet. With supposedly cross sim capable fire power, this Vtol can easily bombard from the cieling prim with much glee, landing occasionally to reload and refuel. However, the bombs are affected by momentum much as many other projectile weapons, such as moving up causes your projectile to drag upwards, left causes it to drag left, etc. etc, and this causes severe problems when your constantly bobbing up and down trying to aim at long distances at small ground targets.

Overall review
Overall, this Vtol is cleanly balanced. With decent Air-to-Air arm guns, and a potent bomb, this Vtol in the right hands can certainly be annoying. However, it shares the same weaknesses as it’s Swoop cousin. Lasers will reach up and swat you out of the sky with little to no chance of evading or dodging, and despite your potent arm mounted cannons, light and medium mechs can still often times out damage and out tank your Vtol.
Sadly, unless your planning on hunting other Vtols, the Swoop is the clear winner between the two. With higher damage weapons that can do the same task as both of the Nighthawks, with unlimited ammo, it can last much longer and stay afloat instead of having to land to re-arm.
A nifty and novel concept, it just lacks the health and the punch to pull it off effectively.
In my final opinion, save yourself the money and buy the Swoop over the nighthawk, as it is much better all rounded.
Your local Harrasser, Velox Vyper.
