Mech For Review: Gila

Health levels: 3.5 (950)
A moderate amount of health, this mech can take a few hits, but combined with it’s relative average speed, it will be destroyed fairly rapidly by either light mechs that it can’t effectively combat, or heavy mechs that will out dps it.

Speed: 3
About the average speed for a heavy, this mech will keep pace with most other heavy mechs, and the slowest of medium mechs, while capable of keeping pace or outrunning assaults.

Flight capability: 2
JJ’s will enable this mech to make high leaps, but little more than that. A full JJ fuel burn will bring you to about the height of a medium building in Old city. I would suggest mounting coolant instead of JJ’s.

Hitbox Size: 3
While the waist is a bit missleading, it has an avi deformer that seems to accurately represent the mechs shape. I don’t know if it was poor maneuvering on my part, or the fact it’s well shaped, but opponnents never seemed to lack in finding my hit box.

Weapons that come with: Clan Pulse Laser Pec, Ort cannon

ort cannon:
Equip slot: Left and Right arm
Damage level: 2 (35, 39 with perks)
ammo: 5 (unlimited)
range: 4 (Roughly 100 meters)
Projectile type: Projectile, physical
Projectile speed: 4
fire rate: 3 (Fires one round, about every half to three quarters second)
Heat generation: 3 (When fired in a pair with no heat sinks, generates heat at a slow rate, easily fixed with heatsinks)
Ease of aim: 3 (Aim fast moving projectile at feat to splash trap, small splash though, so easier said than done.)
Special: none
Hardmounted: Yes
Splash Size: 1 (1-2 meter splash bubble)
Personal notes: Catches on pec pulse lasers.
This weapon, if fired at the feet and successful in catching the prey in it’s small splash, can quickly and rapidly chip away at the health of assault mechs, the bullets traveling fast enough to ensure this is fairly easy to do. However, the proper downwards angle required to get an accurate splash is difficult to achieve at ground level, and often times requires a hop and a skip to fire down upon your target effectively. This however leads to a small issue. This mech has horrendous heat jump effeciency, and jumping and fireing at the same time will lead to a quick build up of heat. I suggest takeing the high ground and fireing down on mechs, complimenting it with straight fireing explosive weapons, or beams to swat at fliers since it’s array of weapons are poorly suited for shooting at fast moving targets with any effectiveness.

Clan Pulse laser Pec:
Equip slot: Left and Right Pec
Damage level: 1 (6 damage, three round burst)
ammo: 5 (Unlimited)
range: 4 (100 meters)
Projectile type: Projectile, Physical
Projectile speed: 4
fire rate: 5 (three round burst, quarter second pause between salvos)
Heat generation: 5 (No heat generation noticed)
Ease of aim: 4 (Spray of bullets ensures at least one hits at most ranges)
Special: None
Hardmounted: Yes
Splash Size: 0, None
Personal notes: These pulse lasers fire exactly like Standard medium pec pulse lasers. Only noticable difference is that they have slightly buffed stats, by roughly one point all around. Use them to either lay into assaults at close range and break weapons, or to lay down a wall of bullets to swat incomming fire. However, I would not suggest using them with the ort cannon, as they bullets catch on the ort cannon and cause it to explode mid air sometimes. I suggest backing this weapon up with more pulse lasers, or completely discarding it.

Overall review
All in all, this mech seems to be designed to be a heavy/assault hunter, comming default with weapons designed to pound those stuck on the ground at close range. Sadly, it’s weapons will easily be out dps’d and out ranged, leaving this mech woefully underarmed. Perhaps the most effective method I found with it was closing to relatively short range, and using srms in addition to my ort cannons to repeatedly splash my assault driving opponents. This however, left me extremely vulnerable to fliers, so alternate methods may be taken.
All in all, an amazing looking mech, but if your looking to win every fight you come across, I’d search elsewhere.
