Mech For Review: Beast Reborn

Health levels: 3.75 (975 health)
The second toughest of all Heavy mechs, this Beast, no pun intended, will easily tank and survive damage from other heavy and lighter mechs. However, it’s lower health when compared to assault mechs makes it likely to die to it’s heavier cousins, being just as fast as most other assault mechs. Use it as a suprise attack heavy, or as support for light hit and run attacks.

Speed: 1
It’s base speed is 0, rendering it at the same exact speed as assault mechs and several other heavies. In fact, it’s slower than several other heavies, and even some assault mechs, making it a slower ground pounder. Pick and choose your fights, you won’t be escaping any engagements easily.

Flight capability: 3
While the Beast doesn’t technically fly, it can jump incredibly high with jump jets attached. With a basic Jump jet, a full fuel burn will cause it to soar upwards and landing atop of the tallest buildings in Old City. This makes it usefull for pursuing lighter targets, even if your air speed is incredibly slow.
Hitbox Size: 3
The General center mass of the mech seems to fit the mech fairly well, the spine and legs lining up nicely with the avatar itself. However, the arms stick out slightly further than the hitbox, and the chest protrudes a small portion in front of itself, giving a small amount of area that can be passed through without actual hit detection.

Weapons that come with: Gatling Gun Pec, Power Fist, Slag Cannon

Gatling Gun Pec:
Equip slot: Left and Right Pec
Damage level: 2 (12 damage)
ammo: 5 (300)
range: 5 (Cross sim capable)
Projectile type: Projectile, Physicle
Projectile speed: 4
fire rate: 4 (One bullet, spaced about .75 seconds apart)
Heat generation: 5 (Not noticable, even when used without heatsinks)
Ease of aim: 2 (Single projectile, small bullet, and built in spread variation makes the shots inconsistent at long range.)
Special: None
Hardmounted: Yes
Splash Size: No
Personal notes:
These Gatling gun Pecs are neat auxilery weapons, but in all honesty are fairly useless. at 12 damage, a comparitively slow refire for such a low damage weapon, and a tiny bullet, these guns are better replaced with heatsinks to attach higher heat weapons onto the shoulders that will do alot more damage.

Power Fist:
Equip slot: Left and Right Arm
Damage level: (40
ammo: 5 (Unlimited)
range: 1 ( 6 meters)
Projectile type: Melee
Projectile speed: None
fire rate: 4 (One second cool down between hits)
Heat generation: 5 (Even when swung endlessly, these fists generate no heat)
Ease of aim: 5
Special: Pushes opponnent back upon successful hit.
Hardmounted: Yes
Splash Size: 0 (None)
Personal notes:
Another one of the classic weapons that always came on the beast, the power fist is force to be reckoned with. Comming in at 40 damage a hit and combined with push back, this weapon will make melee mechs cringe in pain. Sadly, the Beast is too slow to make it an effecient melee platform, and the push back of the melee renders constant hits difficult, so your better off using it simply as a defensive measure.
As a side note, I know this weapon only comes default on the right arm. However, it can be modded and mirrored to be mounted on the left arm too. Have fun.

Slag Cannon:
Equip slot: Right and Left Arm
Damage level: 5 (3 rounds, 24 damage each)
ammo: 3 (150)
range: 5 (Cross Sim)
Projectile type: Physical, Projectile
Projectile speed: 3
fire rate: 4 (three round burst, about a one second pause between)
Heat generation: 3 (If fired slowly it generates little heat, but fired in pairs and at maximum speed it slowly generates heat.)
Ease of aim: 4 (Three bullet spread, sensor based Explosion)
Special: None
Hardmounted: Yes
Splash Size: 2 Meters
Personal notes:
Essentially hard mounted, Advanced Autocannons, they do nearly three times the damage. Very lethal at close range, these weapons will destroy anything slow enough to be caught on the ground, if dual mounted doing roughly 124 damage a second of almost impossible to dodge splash. If mounted with Advanced auto cannons on the shoulder, this mech will do lots of quick chip damage, eating most assault mechs alive at close range very rapidly. At long range though, the mediocre speed of it’s projectiles render it less than usefull, making it a mediocre pew pew weapon. Sadly, it’s ammo is pretty low for how quickly it eats through it, so it will require plenty of stops to re-arm and re-ammo.
Overall review
All in all, it’s awesome to see this old classic redone and brought back into the light once more. The Melee fist is a potent threat as always, and keeps melee mechs off of your slow beast, allowing your Slag cannon to fire into them over and over again. However, my personal favorite so far is the Dual Slag cannons with shoulder mounted Advanced Autocannons. Hard hitting, rapid fire damage that is nearly impossible to dodge at close range makes for an effecient, quick killing Assault hunter. However, with it’s default weapons, it lacks in being able to oppose mechs quicker and lighter than itself, and should more than likely be taken into consideration. Taking away the Advanced autocannons and mounting some laser counterpart should be considered, allwoing it to easily fight both light mechs and ground pounding assaults.

All in all, It’s an awesome, potent mech. Lethal at close range, it will melt assault mechs if equiped properly. My suggestion, buy it for the slag cannons or power fists and find a weapon combination that works well with it for you. Power fists combined with Apoc missles and hail missles, or perhaps Slag cannons with Rask missles. The possibilities are numerous.
