Mech For Review: Basilisk

Health levels: 2.5 (775)
About average on health for a medium mech, it has enough to withstand several of most full alphas, and can be potent in medium or light mech duels.

Speed: 3 while on ground, 4 in the air
A moderatly fast ground pounding mech, this mech has enough speed to outrun most assaults and heavies that don’t have special modes of mobility, but too slow to catch up to faster medium or light cousins. Bunny hopping will greatly increase it’s overall speed.

Flight capability: 2.5
Capable of long jumps or high jumps. About fourty fuel from a standard JJ will ascend you to the roofs of tall buildings in Old city. Far too heavy for more than a few seconds of hovering, JJ’s are better used for increased jump distance.

Hitbox Size: 4
A standard medium mech, this mech has a hit box that accuratly represents it’s size, and as such is great in my opinion.

Weapons that come with: Frag Cannon, Medium Laser

Frag Cannon:
Equip slot: Left Pec
Damage level: 4 (66)
ammo: 2 (50)
range: 3 (about 60-70 meters)
Projectile type: Bullet, Physical
Projectile speed: 4
fire rate: 3 (One projectile, about a three quarters of a second refire rate)
Heat generation: 4 (When fired alone, even without heatsinks it causes no heat climb, should only cause issues in hot setups)
Ease of aim: 4 (Fast firing, large multi-linked projectile)
Special: Can cause push, seems to happen randomly. Bullet has very minute downwards arc.
Hardmounted: Yes
Splash Size: 0, None
Personal notes: This weapon is comparable to a pec mounted LBX II. It fires one medium size large prim that consists of multiple smaller linked prims to make it easy to hit with. Add in that the weapon does heavy amounts of damage, and can be refired quickly, this weapon is a very potent assault and heavy killer, and lethal against mediums and lights too slow to escape or dodge. This weapon is best complimented by ammoless weapons to make up for it’s low ammo count in case you find yourself unable to reload your weapons. In addition, it makes for a great pairing with LBX II’s for a hot running, but very deadly assault destroying setup.

Medium Laser:
Equip slot: Left and Right Arm
Damage level: 2 (20 damage)
ammo: 5 (None)
range: 3 (60-75 meter range)
Projectile type: Beam
Projectile speed: Instant
fire rate: 4 (One shot, about a half second refire time)
Heat generation: 5 (Heat is very neglible, and should only cause issues in the hottest of setups.)
Ease of aim: 5 (Double beams combined with rapid refire and instant travel makes this weapon easy to hit with.)
Special: This weapon fires two beams at once, increasing the area for possible hits, but still only detecting once, much like the Mammoth Assault Lasers.
Hardmounted: No
Splash Size: 0, None
Personal notes: Due to the paired beam of this weapon, I find it is a great light killer due to being able to hit repeatedly and rapidly. While it does lack the damage to destroy heavier mechs, the damage can quickly rack up and put the hurt on any who cross your path. great for keeping flying mechs and bombers at bay. This weapon is benefited by heavier hitting weapons to destroy higher health targets, such as assaults and heavies.

Overall review
Overall. I very much enjoyed this mech. Rapid moving with a daac and jj, with a moderate amount of health, this mech makes an excellent in close fighting machine. The base Frag Cannon is great for fighting heavy targets, while it’s default medium lasers allow for picking apart of lights that may give chase. It can even put the worry on melee mechs with it’s frag cannon if backed up by heavy hitting shoulder weapons. My favorite Varient was the Frag cannon with it’s default medium lasers on arm and LBX’s on shoulders, Daac and basic JJ, with as heavy of heatsinks would fit everywhere else. This setup does massive damage to assaults at close range if you can aim well, and still posses weapons to reach out and touch light mechs with. An alternate setup was to put LBX II’s on in addition to it’s frag cannon, resulting in a wide field of heavy hitting, rapid fireing weapons. Most slots must be filled with heatsinks to fight the high heat though, and the bullets are easily shot down, in addition to being left with no sure hit weapons against mobile fliers at moderate distances, and low ammo counts all around.

All in all, I would recomend buying this mech to make a medium level, fast, heavy hitting infighter that can shoot at medium range effectively at the same time. If all else fails, the omni-mount multibeam medium lasers are a hoot.
