Mech For Review: Heretic

Health levels: 3.5 (950)

Speed: 3
Faster than most ground bound assault and heavy mechs, it can keep pace hoofing it with most un-modified light mechs. However, it is still outsped by Tracked Assault and Heavy mechs, but has the added bonus of flight capability.

Flight capability: 4
Capable of hitting the ceilling prim in a single full burn of Jump jet fuel, and prolonged hovers of over ten seconds, this mech rivals most hover and medium mechs in it’s air flight capabilities. However, it’s lack of horizontal movement while in the air and mediocre air speed offset it’s ability to float and hover.

Hitbox Size: 2
The hitbox size at best can be describe as wonky, and the only reason it doesn’t recieve a one is because the hitbox is actually center of the seen torso. Otherwise, the legs and front of the body protrude far beyond the actual area that detects hits, while the large cylinder on the back looks pretty is incredibly misleading. Aim directly for the center of the waist in all cases when fireing upon from all directions to actually hit.

Weapons that come with: Vars Laser, SRM.

Damage level: 2 (32 damage at 0 charge, 42 at 1 charge, 57 at 2 charge, rated low due to refire rate)

range: ? (range seems to fluxuate with beam charge)

Projectile speed: 5 (instant travel)
fire rate: ? (Varies depending upon charge level, 1 seconds for 0 level charge, 2 second for level 1 charge, 3 seconds for level 2 charge)
Heat generation: 2
Ease of aim: 4
Special: Over a period of three seconds, the longer the weapon charges, the more damage it does. Charge is acomplished by holding the trigger down, and released upon release of the trigger.
Hardmounted: No
Splash Size: 0 (none)
Personal notes: Novel in idea, these weapons are more suited for a light mech than a heavy mech with it’s long charge time but heavy hit, keeping heat in control on something that already has heat problems. A charge time of 1 second for 32 damage is not worth it on a heavy mech when HAMCs are more effective, and the increased mounting cost shouldn’t be an issue. Good accompanying weapon to lrms due to the shared click and hold down fire method, this weapon has little other use and should be replaced for a weapon to better compliment the shoulder srms.

Heat generation: 3 (Very little heat generation if fired alone, but combined with other weapons it quickly stacks.
Ease of aim: 2 (fires four projectiles, requires splash to reliable damage)
Special: None
Hardmounted: Yes
Splash Size: 2 (2-3 meters wide)
Personal notes: These missles fire exactly like other SRMs, four missles that travel in a slow arch and explode in a moderate splash when they impact a prim or avatar. These missles travel slowly, and will require some guessing and leading of the target to score successful hits. Best fashion to do this is to fire the missles at their feet from short range so you can force them to stand inside of the splash and allow it to register. Difficult to use effectively with other weapons, best if combined with other weapons with a similar arching fashion.

Overall review:
A decent mech to strip the weapons off of and make into a platform for other setups, it is comparable to a heavily armored medium mech capable of far more weapon mounting. Containing more armor than most Heavy mechs, and capable of flight like a medium, I forsee this mech being used a lot more in the future. The weapons that come mounted are generic and lack luster, and most often I find myself mounting more srms to compliment the pec mounted srms to turn it into a missle boat and rain explosions on people from above. Have to be carefull with this setup though, as the SRMs tend to clip with each other and explode mid air.
My final opinion? Buy it if your interested in the Vars lasers for lighter mechs, as it gets you the weapon and a heavy mech that can hop fairly well for a cheap price. However, the Vars laser is a weapon suited for lighter mechs and should be mounted as such, and in turn the Heretic should mount something much more suitable for it’s hovering abilities, such as Panzers or SRMs. Makes a more mobile ground setup than an Andres while keeping more hp, this mech should see a boon in usage in the near future if these reviews are payed attention to.
