Mech For Review: Hellion

Health levels: 2 (725)
Far from a tough mech, it’s moderate amount of health borders with high end light mechs.

Speed: 3
Posseses an average speed for a medium mech, not being the fastest, while not being the slowest in MCM while without a Daac. This standard speed is severely cramped by a lack of special movement abilities to catch lighter mechs or flee heavier mechs.

Flight capability: 3
A standard Jump jet will propell this mech far into the air, allowing a meager usage of roughly 40 fuel to propel it to the tallest of buildings in aeon city. Capable of a short imitation of flight, it can remain airborne for roughly 15 seconds without landing before completely depleting fuel.

Hitbox Size: 4
An average sized medium mech, presents an average sized hit box which almost perfectly fits the mech. Only small gripe is the actual arms appear to hang a little lower than the primmed percusion rifles and can be hit.

Weapons that come with: Percusion Rifles (Left and Right arm mount), Autocannon pec (Left pec), Streak SRM pec (Right Pec)

Percusion Rifle:
Equip slot: Left and right arms
Damage level: 3 (28 damage, repeated fire does decent damage at near point blank range to compensate for inability to hit accurately)
ammo: 2 (100, in intense combats, your ammo will quickly disappear and leave you weaponless)
range: 3
Projectile type: Bullet, physical
Projectile speed: 4
fire rate: 4 (One round, about quarter second pause between rounds)
Heat generation: 3 (Steady fire will cause a slow increase in overall heat, greatly increased problem when fireing other weapons
Ease of aim: 3 (Like fireing a short ranged sniper cannon, hit detection seems off though, and the spread of the fired projectiles make it hard to be accurate against smart targets)
Special: Appears to have a very minor ammount of knockback, may just be due to lag though
Hardmounted: No
Splash Size: 0, none
Personal notes: if you can get in close with other medium mechs or lights, this weapon will quickly chip away at their health total. Outside of short range though, the weapons built in spread will cause automatic misses where they should have been hits, and often times can be your downfall. A good compliment would be to remove the pec weapons and mount something more complimentary to long range engagements for while you close the distance. The spread does make it usefull for area denial though, or simply firing a wall of bullets at incoming lights or fliers. At the same time, this spread causes issues due to the bullets catching on both the pec mounted auto cannon and SRMs. If you field this weapon, I suggest replacing the pec weapons with beam weapons so this accident won’t happen. The spread isn’t horrendous, but at extreme ranges and while firing at mobile targets it is entirely all too noticable.
To use this weapon to it’s best extent, close quickly, aim accurately, don’t let off the trigger untill you hear an annoying clicking noise, retreat, reload, repeat.


Autocannon Pec:
Equip slot: left pec
Damage level: 3 (13 damage, but rated higher for ease of hitting with splash and rapidity of fire)
ammo: 4 (240, due to slow fire speed it will take a while to run out, pro-longed combat will cause your ammo to deplete moderatly fast)
range: 5 (Capable of cross sim shots against stationary targets)
Projectile type: Bullet, physical
Projectile speed: 3
fire rate: 4 (Four rounds, about half second pause between fireing)
Heat generation: 5 (Added heat is negligible)
Ease of aim: 4 ( Moderatly difficult to direct hit with outside of close range, but splash size enables easy splash trapping)
Special: none
Hardmounted: Yes
Splash Size: 3 (3-5 meter splash bubble)
Personal notes Behaves exactly like a shoulder or arm mounted auto cannon. Aim for the feet, catch them in the splash. Due to the Percussion rifles spread, they will often times intercept each other mid air and cause bullets to catch and explode in your face. Otherwise, this weapon is usefull for long range harrasment, snipeing out repair drops, or just general harrassment from above.

Streak SRM Pec:
Equip slot: right pec
Damage level: 3 (20 per missle)
ammo: 2 (100, at four rounds per shot, the ammo dissapears quickly)
range: 2
Projectile type: Physical Projectile
Projectile speed: 2
fire rate: 2 (four missles, about a 1 second to 1.5 second delay between shots)
Heat generation: 4( Slow enough fire rate and little enough heat gain it only makes an impact on hot running setups)
Ease of aim: 2 (Fires four projectiles)
Special: none
Hardmounted: Yes
Splash Size: 2, 2-3 meters across
Personal notes: Behaves exactly like an arm or shoulder mounted SRM. Most usefull use is to aim for the feet of where the target will be and force them to walk into the splash of the weapon, or cause them to flee from the splash and move in a desired direction. This weapon would more than likely be complimented by more weapons that arch or have a similar purpose, since they seem to catch on other projectiles quiet often.


Overall review
This mech is built to be a close range mobile brawler, and has the weapons to do it, but severely lacks the HP to pull it off successfully. Due to the large use of assaults and heavies, combined with melee mechs, this mech is generally outclassed in it’s designed field. However, if the default weapons were to be replaced, or modified, it could make a potent hunter of wounded mechs with it’s ability to jump well and moderatly quick ground speed when equiped with a DaaC. Replacing the srm and auto-cannon with Large lasers would allow you to fire your percussion rifles freely, and not have shots clip against each other. on a counterance, the pre-built in explosive weapons would allow you to modify it with more explosive weapons and create a great ground hunting setup. However, this mechs one major weakness is air targets, as all of it’s default weaponry lack the ability to reliably hit airborne targets. I suggest some form of beam weapon to at least have a deffensive measure against them.

In the end, if your looking for a new weapon, and a nifty, great build at the same time, I recommend the Hellion. At only 500L, you have a stable, quick platform, with shiny guns too boot.
