Database Edits
Over the last few weeks there’s been some tweaks to the database concerning some weapons. It has to do largely with oversized splashes with the first part, and restoring snipe to snipers for the second.

Weapons pull from the database to figure out how broad of a splash to play. Originally splashes were prims and the prims were resized to a diameter equal to the database value. Then we started to go sensor based at some point. Sensors are RADIUS based. This change effectively doubled the splash radius on a number of sensor based weapons. Since the particle effects are hand-tuned and can’t be resized on the fly we’ve had a number of weapons with real large splashes, much larger then the visual effects.

Hail clusters, for example, had a 14 meter wide splash under this system. A striking difference was the heavy PPCs, the prim versions found on the wastelander had a 5 meter broad splash. The sensor based version sold independently had a 10 meter broad splash.

After some deliberation we’ve started to tune those splashes down. This has been largely done using test dummies. The disruptors, heavy ppcs, white noise hail clusters, and heavier gauss guns have had their AoEs brought back in line with their effects. This edit has been in effect for at least a month now.

A more recent set of edits is to the mantis sniper guns. The damage has been increased to about 150, ammo has been decreased to 30, loadpoint cost has been increased by a hair. These edits came after consultation with an old Mantis veteran, Kalel geared towards making the mech something that rewards accuracy. The Templar’s sniper rifle has been given a similar treatment. We’ve special plans for the phalanx sniper, and I’ve already received a request to tweak up the omni-mount snipers as well with the projectiles found in the mantis.
